A former star at Gadsden City with plenty of Division I experience will take over as Pelham’s girls basketball coach.
Former Missouri guard and North Alabama assistant coach Haley Troup has been hired to lead the Panthers’ girls basketball program, it was announced Wednesday afternoon.
She will replace Crosby Morrison, who was hired as the head coach at Vestavia Hills High School in May.
“Coach Troup’s high basketball IQ, tireless work ethic, and commitment to building relationships make her the perfect fit for Pelham High School,” Pelham athletics director Trey Simpson wrote in a release. “Her experience at all levels of the game has prepared her to lead our program forward while building on the strong foundation established by Coach Crosby Morrison.”
Troup spent last season as an assistant coach at North Alabama under head coach Candi Whitaker, where the Lions finished 13-17 with the first-year coach at the helm.
She previously served as a graduate assistant at Missouri, where she played in 148 games across four seasons as a guard from 2018-2022.
Troup amassed 898 career points and 304 assists for the Tigers, starting every game for Missouri in her final three seasons with the program; the Tigers made three WNIT appearances with Troup as a starter.
“From the moment I stepped onto campus and met with the administration, I felt like I was exactly where I needed to be,” Troup said. “The family atmosphere within the school and community is undeniable, and it’s so rare. I knew Pelham is where I wanted to begin my next chapter.
“What excites me most is the existing talent on the roster and the potential of that talent to turn into something really special if we do it the right way. Pelham has been a consistent contender in recent years, and I can’t wait to continue that tradition.”
A former standout at Gadsden City High School, she was named Class 7A Player of the Year in 2017 as she averaged 19.4 points and seven rebounds per game as a senior.
She finished her high school career with 2,284 points, 1,235 rebounds and 842 assists with the Titans.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Coach Troup as the new leader of our girls’ basketball program,” principal Sabrina Tutchtone said. “Her basketball pedigree is exceptional, coming from a family of coaches and competing at the highest collegiate level in the SEC. Her energy, competitiveness, and vision stood out immediately.
“I’m confident she will build on the winning tradition established here at Pelham.”
