CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli believes Drew Allar will get the start for Penn State when the No. 3 Nittany Lions host the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 10. Fornelli relayed confidence in PSU whether it was Allar or Week 9 hero Beau Pribula.
Fornelli even went as far as to say Penn State is playing possum and leading the Buckeyes astray with a false injury report.
“I suspect Allar will start, even if he’s not 100%, and Penn State is leaving his status in the air to force Ohio State to prepare for both him and Beau Pribula,” Fornelli wrote. “While I think Penn State can win this game if forced to rely on Pribula, it has a much better chance of doing so with Allar.”
Fornelli is willing to look past James Franklin’s lack of success against Ohio State and predicted a breakthrough performance for Penn State. Franklin owns a 1-9 record against the Buckeyes. Fornelli also fears what Will Howard and the talented RB room could do against a No. 8 run defense.
“I’m well aware of James Franklin’s history against Ohio State, and while it terrifies me, the fact is I have more confidence in the Penn State offense than Ohio State’s at the moment,” Fornelli wrote.
A Nittany Lions win could propel PSU past Georgia in the very first College Football Playoff Rankings if the Bulldogs have any problems with Florida during the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.
Penn State could deliver College Football Playoff Championship hope if James Franklin could conquer his boogyman
Everyone will understand that Penn State is for real if the Nittany Lions can beat Ryan Day’s Ohio State. Day is 1-7 in games against top-five opponents, so history is in Franklin’s favor, if nothing else.
It’s not nothing else, though. Tom Allen’s defense is elite and Penn State’s No. 13 offense isn’t far behind. Allar is an NFL-caliber QB but Pribula is riding the high of leading the Nittany Lions back against Wisconsin.
A lot of starts and stops could finally lead to Penn State achieving something significant in 2024. That starts with Ohio State on Saturday.
