PHILADELPHIA − First place in the National League East is on the line when the Phillies and Mets play June 20 in the first game of a three-game series.
The Phillies have staff ace Zack Wheeler pitching. Wheeler is 7-2 with a 2.76 ERA against the Mets’ Blade Tidwell, making just his second start of the season. His first didn’t go so well as he gave up 6 runs in 3 2/3 innings.
The Phillies (45-30) have won 8 of 10 to pull into a tie with the Mets (45-30), who have lost 6 straight games.
Bryce Harper is still not back after going on the 10-day injured list June 6 with a wrist injury. But Harper was seen making some throws before the game, a sign that he’s progressing.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said he had no timetable on a return, but both he and Harper made it seem like Harper wasn’t close.
And that it might be something Harper will have to deal with even when he does return.
“I hope the pain gets out of there,” Harper said before the game. “I don’t want to play in pain at all. I think that’s something we’ll see as that comes around. Hopefully, it can get out of there, and stay out of there.”
