Portland Baseball Announces 2025 Spring Schedule – University of Portland Athletics

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Baseball announced on Wednesday their schedule for the upcoming 2025 season. The schedule features several high-profile nonconference series and another loaded WCC schedule.

Portland opens the season in Riverside with a four-game series against the California Baptist Lancers from Feb. 14-17. The Lancers put together a stellar season in the WAC last year, posting a 38-24 overall record and an 18-12 record in conference. The Pilots then host the Creighton Bluejays – who went 35-17 last season – for their first home series of the season, welcoming them to Joe Etzel Field from Feb. 21-23 for four games. The Pilots and Bluejays played a three-game series last season, with the Bluejays taking two out of three.

The Pilots play a one-off against the Seattle U Redhawks on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Seattle before hosting the Utah Tech Trailblazers for four games from Feb. 28 to March 4. The Redhawks went 17-36 last season and 10-20 in the WAC while the Trailblazers went 14-42 and also 10-20 in the WAC. The Pilots last played both teams in 2023, going a combined 4-1.

The Pilots will take on one of their toughest opponents this season on the road when they travel to Fayetteville to challenge the Arkansas Razorbacks for three games from March 7-9. Arkansas is a dominant force in college baseball, having gone 44-16 overall and 20-10 in SEC play. They’ve made the NCAA Tournament 35 times in their program history and have won the SEC regular season title twice since 2021.

Portland hosts the Washington Huskies on Tuesday, March 11 before playing the New Mexico State Aggies from March 14-16 down in Las Cruces. Portland split their two games against Washington last year, who finished 19-31-1 overall and 10-20 in Pac-12 play. Former associate head coach Connor Lambert joined the Washington staff this offseason. New Mexico State, meanwhile, went 25-29 overall and 10-14 in Conference USA. The Pilots and Aggies last played each other in 2003.

The Pilots move the road trip back west with a single game against the San Jose State Spartans on Wednesday, March 19 before opening WCC play against the Pacific Tigers from March 21-23. The Spartans went 24-33 overall and 16-14 in the Mountain West. The Pilots took two of three games against the Spartans in 2022. The Tigers were eighth in the WCC with an 11-44 record overall and a 5-19 record in WCC play. The Pilots have swept the Tigers each of the last four years with 12 straight wins dating back to 2021. It’s the longest win streak they’ve posted against a WCC opponent in program history.

The Bluff Boys return home soon after for a single game against the Utah Valley Wolverines on Monday, March 24 before hosting the LMU Lions for their second conference home series from March 28-30. The Pilots swept the Wolverines – who went an even 29-29 overall and 18-12 in the WAC to finish third in the conference – last season. LMU went 24-30 overall and 9-15 in the WCC to take sixth, qualifying for the WCC Tournament. The Pilots dropped their series against the Lions last year.

The Pilots finish off the brief homestand against the Oregon Ducks on Wednesday, April 2. Portland split their series with the Ducks last year, earning their biggest win over the Ducks with a 15-5 rout in Eugene. The Ducks went 40-20 overall and 19-11 in the Pac-12, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament and advancing to the Super Regionals before falling to Texas A&M. The Pilots play the Saint Mary’s Gaels in a three-game series from April 4-6 down in Moraga after that, taking on an SMC squad that went 34-22 and 16-8 in conference play last year. The Pilots swept their four games, including a matchup in the WCC Tournament, against the Gaels last year.

The Pilots host the Oregon State Beavers soon after on Tuesday, April 8 for their annual showdown at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro. Oregon State – who joined the WCC as an affiliate member in all sports except baseball and football – finished 45-16 overall and 19-10 in the Pac-12. They’ve qualified for the NCAA Tournament every year since 2009 and have three College World Series titles as a program.

Portland hosts the Pepperdine Waves after that for three games at Joe Etzel Field from April 11-13. The Pilots swept Pepperdine last year, who finished 15-38 overall but 9-15 in conference play. Portland hits the road after that to play the CSUN Matadors in Northridge on Tuesday, April 15. CSUN went 30-24 and 16-14 in the Big West.

Conference play resumes with a road series against the San Diego Toreros from April 17-19. The Toreros are the reigning WCC champions after winning both the regular season and tournament titles. They went 41-14 overall and 20-4 in conference play. The Pilots took the regular season series against the Toreros – the only WCC team to take a series against San Diego – but lost both matchups in the WCC Tournament. The Pilots play Oregon for the final time after that, heading to Eugene for a game on Tuesday, April 22.

Portland hosts the Santa Clara Broncos in the beginning of May from the first through the third. The Broncos qualified for the WCC Tournament by finishing fifth, posting a perfectly even 26-26 overall record and a 12-12 WCC record. The Pilots swept the Broncos down in Santa Clara last year. After that, Portland will play Oregon State on Wednesday, May 7 in Corvallis before playing the San Francisco Dons down in the Bay Area from May 9-11. The Dons were swept by Portland last year and finished last in the conference with a 21-34 overall record and 4-20 WCC record.

On May 13, the Pilots play Oregon State for the final time before finishing off the regular season against the Gonzaga Bulldogs from May 15-17. The Bulldogs finished fourth in the conference, going 20-32 overall and 14-10 in WCC play to qualify for the WCC Tournament. The Pilots pounded the Zags 23-3 to advance to the WCC Tournament Championship.

The Pilots put together one of the best in program history, posting a 37-19 overall record and a 19-5 record in WCC play. Their 37 wins are the most they’ve posted in a single season and their 19 wins are the most they’ve recorded as a WCC team and the most they’ve recorded in conference play overall since 1980. The Pilots advanced to the 2024 WCC Tournament Championship for the second season in a row as well and just the second time in program history.
