Portland Diamond Project reveals new renderings of potential MLB stadium

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – The Portland Diamond Project (PDP) met with an Oregon State Legislature committee on Monday, presenting new renderings of what an MLB stadium on the Portland Waterfront could potentially look like.

PDP founder Craig Cheek issued the following statement:

“Portland Diamond Project would like to thank members of the House Committee on Economic Development, Small Business, and Trade for inviting us to testify. We believe the state’s support is critical for this project’s success. We asked legislators to revisit SB5, originally passed in 2003, and update the law to better reflect the current revenue generated by players’ salaries and the rising costs to build a world-class stadium in downtown Portland. This would not be a new tax on Oregonians. We look forward to working with the legislature to make Oregon Better with Baseball.”

Portland’s South Waterfront could be the future home of a Major League Baseball stadium.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson and the CEO of the Portland Business Alliance were also in attendance.

PDP was founded in 2017, with the intention of bringing an MLB franchise to the city. They announced last September that they had signed a letter of intent to purchase the Zidell Yards property on the South Waterfront.

In October, the Portland City Council unanimously approved a resolution to support the group’s efforts in building a new stadium.
