Barring something unexpected, Tennessee’s roster for the 2025 college football season is virtually locked in. Summer classes and strength-and-conditioning workouts began last week as the third phase of the offseason for Josh Heupel’s team kicked off ahead of his fifth season in charge of the Vols. Even a program with the stability Tennessee has had under Heupel is not immune to roster turnover, and as the countdown rolls on to the start of preseason camp and the season to follow, it’s a good time to recap all of Tennessee’s offseason roster movement.
From a scholarship standpoint, the Vols added 32 players – 25 from the 2025 recruiting class and seven transfers – in a class that includes 18 blue-chip players and ranks 11th nationally and eighth in the SEC in the 247Sports rankings combining recruiting and transfer classes. But Tennessee also lost 20 scholarship players to the transfer portal on top of 13 seniors who exhausted their eligibility plus two early entrants into the NFL Draft. As always, replacing those star players and veteran contributors from last season’s 10-win College Football Playoff team will determine if Tennessee improves or regresses in 2025.
Here’s a position-by-position breakdown of every addition and departure for the Vols this offseason.
