Red Sox Exec Gives Wholesome One-Word Description Of Kristian Campbell

The Boston Red Sox held a press conference Saturday to announce Kristian Campbell’s new eight-year contract extension.

Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy kicked off the event in the media room at Fenway Park with a quick message, during which he thanked Campbell’s family and offered a very wholesome description of the 22-year-old.

“The word to describe (Campbell) around camp — from where I sit, anyway, as someone who’s not in the clubhouse each and every day — is humility,” Kennedy said. “And that’s probably life’s greatest achievement. So, congratulations.”

Campbell’s extension runs through the 2032 season and includes club options for 2033 and 2034. It could prove to be a very team-friendly deal if Campbell reaches his full potential, which already has been on display since the rookie’s MLB debut on Opening Day.

Clearly, Campbell wants to be in Boston. And the Red Sox are hopeful he’ll be an integral part of their long-term core, perhaps alongside fellow “Big Three” prospects Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer, who could debut with Boston this season, as well.

As such, the Red Sox jumped at the opportunity to lock up Campbell, giving them some cost certainty as they seek to build a sustainable contender. They’re betting on both the player and the person, and Campbell has drawn rave reviews for his work ethic — both on and off the field — since being selected in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
