When the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman, they brought on a player who could provide the club with more than an impactful bat and a sure-handed glove.
Bregman also has championship pedigree after winning two World Series with the Houston Astros, and he’s renowned for his leadership skills. That mentorship could become extremely beneficial to a Red Sox organization with multiple top prospects on the rise, and Boston is making a concerted effort to have Bregman assist with their development.
Shortly before Bregman’s introductory Red Sox press conference, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported the two-time All-Star’s spring training locker is directly next to Kristian Campbell’s. Campbell, meanwhile, is right next to fellow budding stars Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony, so Bregman will be near the talented trio throughout their time in Fort Myers, Fla.
Bregman’s locker placement shouldn’t be viewed as a footnote of Boston’s preseason. Red Sox brass clearly believes the 30-year-old can be a helpful voice to three of the franchise’s more important players. And if Bregman’s track record tells us anything, he’ll give Campbell, Anthony and Mayer proper guidance while leading by example.
And who knows? It might not be long until Bregman takes the field at Fenway Park with those top prospects.
