Red Sox Reportedly Swap Pitchers In Trade With NL Central Team

The Red Sox reportedly swung a trade Friday.

Boston acquired pitcher Matt McShane from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Chase Shugart, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette’s Andrew Destin.

The Red Sox recently designated Shugart for assignment before the trade. The right-hander pitched 8 2/3 innings for Boston last season and was drafted by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Pittsburgh drafted McShane in the 12th round of the 2024 MLB Draft. The right-hander pitched at St. Joseph’s last season where he recorded a 3.95 ERA in 43 1/3 innings. The 22-year-old also recorded 57 strikeouts and also pitched for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
