Red Sox Star Rafael Devers Sends Message To Boston Fans

Rafael Devers forecasts a very successful 2025, both for the Red Sox and himself.

The 2024 season wasn’t an easy campaign for Devers and Boston as a whole. Yes, the star third baseman claimed his third career All-Star nod last summer, but he was hindered by a pair of sore shoulders. The Red Sox collectively improved after back-to-back 78-win seasons, but 81 victories weren’t nearly enough to secure a playoff berth.

But optimism is very high in Boston, where Craig Breslow and company vastly improved the roster over the offseason. And Devers, whose winter was focused primarily on getting fully healthy, sees big things ahead.

“(Fans) can expect a better year than last year from me,” Devers told reporters Thursday, per The Athletic. “They can expect from this team overall a lot. We have a really good team, and I think the fans can expect us to compete for a World Series this year.”

Oddsmakers certainly aren’t doubting the Red Sox, even though Alex Cora’s club only reached the postseason once in the last six years. Less than two weeks out from Opening Day, Boston has the eighth-shortest odds at FanDuel Sportsbook to win the 2025 World Series.

That said, games aren’t won on paper. So after the Red Sox front office did its job, the onus now is on Devers and company to maximize their new-look roster.
