Red Sox’s Alex Bregman Gives Take On Controversial Torpedo Bat

Torpedo bats are all the rage these days, and they’re prompting strong reactions on both sides of the fence.

The Yankees clearly love the bowling pin-shaped lumber, which has more mass toward the end and can give hitters a better chance of barreling a baseball on any given at-bat. New York entered Thursday with an MLB-leading 19 home runs, which has created some anger outside of the Bronx.

But not everyone has a passionate take on the polarizing equipment. Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman, who gave the torpedo bat a test run Wednesday in Baltimore, was pretty subdued with his stance on the matter.

“I don’t really think it’s the bat,” Bregman told reporters, per The Boston Globe. “It’s not like anybody using it (is going to hit homers). It’s the guy.”

Bregman’s take probably is the right one to have. For instance, four of the Yankees’ round-trippers to date belong to Aaron Judge, who isn’t using a torpedo bat. To put it simply, great hitters are going to hit no matter what they’re using at the dish.

Of course, not everyone is going to be as neutral about the issue as Bregman. We probably can expect the torpedo bat to be a hot topic of conversation for the foreseeable future.
