Bobby Dalbec isn’t the only former Red Sox player to head to Chicago.
The White Sox agreed to a deal with pitcher Martín Pérez on Wednesday, FanSided Robert Murray reported. The contract is pending a physical and for one year and $5 million, according to ESPN.
Pérez spent the 2024 MLB season split between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Diego Padres. He went 5-6 with a 4.53 ERA in 26 starts. He struggled to find a groove throughout the year but settled down in the second half of the season.
Entering his 15th MLB season, Pérez has bounced around a bit since his two-year stint with the Red Sox also pitching for the Texas Rangers before landing in Pittsburgh.
The White Sox, who lost a record 121 games in 2024, didn’t have a solid rotation last year and it doesn’t appear to be getting much better in 2025. They traded Garrett Crochet to the Red Sox, Erick Fredde was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals at last year’s trade deadline and Chris Flexen remains a free agent. Jonathan Cannon remains on the roster and is the only starter who made more than 10 starts for Chicago last season.
Pérez could add some consistency to the White Sox’ rotation given he’s been relatively healthy. He missed a few weeks with a groin strain that landed him on the injured list, but has made at least 20 starts in eight of his 14 seasons.
