
Cayuga Community College swept its home doubleheader versus Corning Community College on Thursday.
The Spartans started the day with a 16-5 win over the Red Barons in five innings.
Trailing after the first, Cayuga scored 16 unanswered runs to jump out to a 16-3 lead. The Spartans scored three runs in each of the first two innings, and then plated five runs in the third and fourth inning.
Freshman Kyle Peryer picked up his first collegiate victory, allowing two earned runs and striking out five in a complete game.
Offensively, Michael DeRosa paced the team with four RBIs, three hits and two runs. Kevin Dolan and Jeremy Recio each ended with three RBIs and two hits. Jacob Laird tallied two RBIs and two hits, while Lucas D’Emilio, Owen Browne, Isaac Allison and Alejandro Diaz finished with one RBI apiece.

In the second matchup, Cayuga put up nine of its 12 total runs in the first three innings to take home a 12-2 five-inning victory.
On the mound, freshman James MacLean also picked up his first collegiate win. MacLean concluded his 3.1 innings of work with four strikeouts and two earned runs accounted for. Antonio Munoz added 1.2 innings, striking out four without surrendering a hit.
Laird led the offense in the victory with three RBIs, two runs, one hit and one walk. Todd Brandl and Allison each tallied two RBIs and one hit.
Recio posted four runs scored, three hits and one RBI. Michael Blowers and D’Emilio also ended with one RBI each.
