Royals call up Jac Caglianone to Kansas City

It’s happening, everyone: per Jeff Passan, the Kansas City Royals are calling up top prospect Jac Caglianone to Kansas City.

As Passan notes, Caglianone, 22, has spent the year destroying Minor League pitching. He spent 38 games in Double-A Northwest Arkansas. In his first 11 games at Triple-A Omaha, he hit .326/.380/.767 with six home runs in only 50 plate appearances. Drafted as the sixth overall pick in the 2024 draft, he was ranked as one of the best prospects in all of baseball.

Caglianone comes during a time of duress for the Royals offense, where they are coming off a weekend set against the Tigers where they scored one run. On the year, the team is dead last in MLB in home runs, 26th in wRC+, and 26th in on base percentage.

The timing makes sense for both parties. Omaha and Kansas City have an off day on Monday. The Royals travel to St. Louis to play the Cardinals on Tuesday. The first home game for Caglianone would be Tuesday, June 10th against the visiting New York Yankees.

Caglianone, a first baseman, has started to learn both corner outfield spots. The Royals have not announced where he will play, but it will likely be a mix of first base, DH, and outfielder. No corresponding roster move has been announced yet.
