
The 2024 college football season was a big year for SEC cornerbacks, but a new wave of talent is set to take over after 11 of the top 20 cover cornerbacks left the league for the NFL Draft or transfer portal this offseason. Using PFF’s coverage grades, the top-eight coverage cornerbacks returning to the SEC for the 2025 season stand tall.
Tennessee finished with the No. 5 passing defense in the SEC in 2024 and strives for a top-three finish. The Volunteers return a burgeoning superstar in Jermod McCoy to lead a talented and deep cornerback room. Tennessee is the only program with two of the SEC’s top eight returning cover cornerbacks.
Three upcoming sophomores made the top eight, speaking to the amount of young secondary talent the league will offer in 2025. The SEC welcomes six of the top 10 ranked cornerbacks from the 2025 recruiting class, too.
