Alabama basketball big man Grant Nelson might’ve made history at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine.
After walking across the stage in Coleman Coliseum a couple weeks ago to receive his degree, and be further cemented as an Alabama legend, he’s already making his mark at the next level by setting record times in this year’s combine.
On Tuesday, Nelson’s shuttle run was unofficially clocked at 2.58 seconds. According to DraftExpress.com‘s Jon Chepkevich, that would be the “fastest time in the history” of the NBA Draft Combine should another player not eclipse him by its conclusion.
The native of Devils Lake, ND, a town with more or less than 7,100 residents, passed Malcolm Brogdon, who topped the record book in 2016 with a mark of 2.64 seconds. Brogdon, a Virginia basketball alum, was drafted in the second round by the Milwaukee Bucks as the 26th overall pick.

Nelson came in at No. 72 on ESPN‘s 2025 NBA Draft Big Board. Standing at 6-foot-10 barefoot and weighing in at 229.8 pounds, his measurements from this week certainly can’t hurt his chances of moving on up. Nelson’s wingspan was marked at 7’0″ with a towering 8’11” 1/2 standing reach and hands measuring 9 inches long by 9 3/4 inches wide.
Leading Alabama to an Elite Eight appearance in 2025 after taking part in a historic run to the Final Four the season prior, Nelson finished his Alabama career shooting over 50% from the floor for an average 11.7 points per game while putting up 6.7 boards as a critical rim protector for the Crimson Tide.
The 2025 NBA Draft starts at 7 p.m. CT June 25.
