With college basketball long over, and the NBA season nearly finished, it’s nearly time for the men’s basketball world to focus on the NBA draft. It’s just around the corner, and a former Kentucky Wildcats star or two might hear their names called.
In addition to the players who ran out of eligibility, there are always a number of underclassmen who declare for the draft. Those players then have the chance to withdraw and return to school as long as they do so by the deadline, which was May 28th this year.
A couple of current Wildcats had to make that decision this year, along with some players who are former Wildcats, or almost Wildcats. Here’s a look at some of the decisions that were made.
Otega Oweh
Oweh made Big Blue Nation very happy with his decision to return to school. He’ll play one more season in Lexington and try to boost his draft stock for next year. His ability to drive into the lane and create a shot is elite, and he is a plus defender. He’ll need to try an improve his outside shot.
Jaland Lowe
Lowe didn’t wait until the deadline to make his decision. He transferred from Pitt to Kentucky and will man the point guard position for the Cats. There has been a lot of praise about his game, and he could take a leap with a more talented roster around him.
Boogie Fland
Fland was set to play for Kentucky before the coaching change. After spending a season at Arkansas, he entered the draft. However, he decided to return to school, but not the Razorbacks. He’ll transfer to the Florida Gators for next season.
Karter Knox
Like Fland, Knox was committed to Kentucky but left for Arkansas. He is a terrific athlete, and would have likely been drafted, but ultimately decided to play college basketball for another season. Unlike Fland, he heads back to Arkansas.
Adou Thiero
Thiero was another player who left for Arkansas to join John Calipari. An explosive athlete, he finally had a breakout season, showing he could do it all. Because of that, he elected to remain in the NBA draft, and could be a first round pick.
