Shai Gilgeous-Alexander stays in top spot in NBA’s MVP ladder

Only three weeks are left, but everything says Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a firm lead in the MVP race over Nikola Jokic. After taking turns, repeating at the top of the NBA’s MVP ladder this week is the latest of several signals the prestigious award is his to lose.

Gilgeous-Alexander was ranked at the top of the MVP ladder. NBA’s Shaun Powell argued that the Oklahoma City Thunder‘s historic success paired with his individual scoring brilliance makes for a bulletproof case for him to win the award.

“OKC has won 14 of its last 15 games and Gilgeous-Alexander is a big reason for not only that — despite sitting some games — but the Thunder’s success all season,” Powell wrote. “His consistency and efficiency have remained high since opening night. The top seed in the West is a foregone conclusion.”

Not to jinx anything, but a heated two-man MVP race has died down a bit in recent weeks. Jokic’s absence paired with the Nuggets’ struggles has made it easy to envision Gilgeous-Alexander bringing home his first MVP award.
