Sherrone Moore discusses QB room ahead of spring practices: ‘We’re in a really good place’

After a rough 2024 season in the passing game that saw the Wolverines rank 131st nationally in passing offense, the Michigan football team is slated to have a revamped quarterback room in 2025.

It isn’t yet known who will start for the Wolverines. But after adding Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene and five-star quarterback recruit Bryce Underwood, it’s expected that Michigan will have a new starter, and a more prolific passing game in Sherrone Moore’s second season.

Ahead of spring practices, Moore spoke about the quarterback room on a wide-ranging podcast with college football analyst Adam Breneman.

Obviously, any conversation about the room with media right now is going to begin with Underwood, who was the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 recruiting class and has a chance to start day one with the Wolverines.

Before that battle begins March 18, Moore likes the work ethic and humility Underwood has shown so far.

“I mean, I think to just get to talk to him, to be around him, to grow with him,” Moore said. “The kid is an amazing human being. He is extremely selfless. He’s extremely humble. And all he wants to do is work. And that’s all he wants to do.

“So you see this No. 1 player in the country. You have this vision of what it could be, and he’s the exact opposite of the prima donna, I think I got all the answers guy. I mean, the guy’s the first guy in the building. He’s the last one out. He, you got to tell him to get out the building. Like, and he told us that he’s like, you’re going to have to tell me to leave. And the dude just does not want to leave the building. So he’s an awesome, awesome teammate, awesome player, and excited to watch him.”

In addition to Underwood, Keene and rising redshirt freshman Jadyn Davis will also vie for the starting job this spring. With Davis Warren expected to miss the spring due to injury, the trio will take the majority of the reps at the position, which will be coached by new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Chip Lindsey.

“I feel like we’re in a really good place with the quarterbacks,” Moore said. “I’ll really start with Mikey Keene, a transfer from Fresno, who’s great player. Yeah, really great player. And you watch the cutups of Coach Lindsey’s showing us things from different places he’s been, and also Mikey Keene shows up on different cutups, and the dude can really spin it. He’s thrown for over 8,000 yards in his career, and he had, I think, the third-highest adjusted completion percentage in college football last year. So he’s a guy that’s won a lot of football games, played a lot of football in different environments. Super smart, excited to have him.

“Jadyn Davis is a guy that just keeps getting better. He was a high-ranked quarterback going out of high school, and he’s here. And then obviously, you have Bryce, who’s an immense talent.

“So we’re in a really good place, and I’m not going to make any predictions on what it is, or who it is (who starts).”

The three quarterbacks, as well as the rest of the team, will begin spring practices formally March 18, with the Wolverines’ spring game slated to kick off April 18.
