Sorg appointed team captain of Knights baseball

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Senior Casey Sorg has been appointed captain of the Bellarmine University baseball team, first-year head coach Ben Reel announced Thursday.

The upcoming season will mark Sorg’s fourth at Bellarmine. The native of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, was a first-team All-ASUN selection at first base last season and is a two-time ASUN Honor Roll recipient.

Casey Sorg is the epitome of dedication and excellence, embodying everything Bellarmine Baseball represents,” Reel said. “His unwavering loyalty to Bellarmine University and steadfast commitment to the program’s transition to Division I are a testament to his character. Casey holds himself, his teammates and all who wear the Bellarmine uniform to the highest standard, honoring the legacy of those who came before him while inspiring those who will follow. Both on and off the field, Casey’s leadership, integrity and passion set the tone for our successes in 2025 and define what it means to be a Bellarmine Knight.”

Sorg had a breakout season as a junior. His All-ASUN campaign included team highs in batting average (.348), home runs (14), RBI (49), hits (72), runs scored (50), triples (three), slugging percentage (.638), on-base percentage (.416) and total bases (132) while tying for first in doubles (12).

In ASUN play, Sorg carried a .363/.432/.653 slash line with eight homers, eight doubles, two triples, six steals, 34 RBI and 32 runs scored. He had perhaps the team’s most memorable individual outing of the season when he smashed three homers in an ASUN series finale against Jacksonville. He went deep twice in a nonconference contest against Tennessee, which won the 2024 College World Series.
