South Carolina women’s basketball continues its national championship defense Friday against a Maryland team that may be getting hot at the right time. The Gamecocks powered past Indiana in the second round despite a valiant effort from the underdog Hoosiers, whereas the Terrapin were able to stave off Alabama in thrilling double overtime fashion.
The Gamecocks, who have won two of the past three national titles, are looking to make their fifth straight Final Four appearance and seventh total under Staley. Brenda Frese, meanwhile, is having a renaissance of sorts with the Terrapins. She is looking for her fourth Final Four appearance with Maryland and first since 2015. Frese also won a national championship on Maryland’s sideline in 2006.
