Southern Miss baseball coach Christian Ostrander spoke to the media after the Golden Eagles beat Old Dominion 10-0.
Southern Miss baseball will host a regional in the NCAA tournament.
The Golden Eagles (44-18) were announced as one of the top 16 seeds in the NCAA tournament on May 25. Their exact seed has not been revealed. The full bracket will be revealed on May 26 (11 a.m., ESPN2).
It will be Southern Miss’ first time as a regional host since 2022.

How Southern Miss baseball has fared as a regional host
The Golden Eagles have hosted three regionals in NCAA tournament history. They have only won one of those regionals, the 2022 regional that also led to a Hattiesburg Super Regional.
Southern Miss hosted a regional in 2017, but lost to Mississippi State in the regional final. The first Hattiesburg Regional was in 2003, which was won by Baylor.
The last postseason baseball to be played at Pete Taylor Park was the Hattiesburg Super Regional in 2023, which Southern Miss lost to Tennessee in three games.
How Southern Miss baseball earned a national seed
The Golden Eagles were riding a program-record 18-game winning streak until losing to Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt tournament championship on May 25. That long winning streak though was still enough to host a regional in the NCAA tournament.
Southern Miss broke the program’s single-season home run record with its 96th during the Coastal Carolina loss. Second baseman Nick Monistere won Sun Belt Player of the Year. It also has a star ace pitcher in JB Middleton, the Ferris Trophy winner.
Southern Miss has the No. 19 RPI.
