On3 is one of the few media outlets to leave the Spartans off their way-too-early rankings for next season
Michigan State basketball was snubbed in On3’s latest way-too-early rankings for next season.
Jamie Shaw of On3 released a new batch of way-too-early rankings for the 2025-26 college basketball season and Michigan State was left off the list. Shaw didn’t include the Spartans in his top 25 rankings, having teams such as Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa in the mix over Michigan State.
Shaw had six teams from the Big Ten in his updated rankings: Purdue at No. 1, Michigan at No. 6, Illinois at No. 15, UCLA at No. 19, Wisconsin at No. 20 and Iowa at No. 24. Additionally, Shaw had NC State as his final team at No. 25 — which is notable since that is where former Spartans point guard Tre Holloman ended up via the transfer portal.
Michigan State has widely been considered a top 25 team heading into next year, with nearly all the media outlets I’ve came across include the Spartans in their way-too-early rankings. So it was surprising to see Michigan State left off Shaw’s list.
