St. Mary's College Baseball Kicks Off 2025 Season With Road Contest At Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Baseball Team (0-1) began their season with a road contest against the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College (2-0) The Seahawks dropped the seven inning contest 12-2.

How It Happened

  • Cole Tarleton started off his season with a bang, homering in his first at bat of the year to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Marlins were able to respond and score two runs over the first and second inning to take the lead from the Seahawks. St. Mary’s left two runners stranded in both the second and third innings.
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Rhett Fletcher was able to drive a runner home on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two. Adrian Auber walked the next at bat to reload the bases for the Seahawks with two outs. Unfortunately for St. Mary’s, they would leave three stranded and the game stayed knotted at two.
  • Virginia Wesleyan went on to score 10 runs over the last three innings to take home the 12-2 victory.
