Steer baseball ends 96-game losing streak

Not since the 2021 season have the Steer won a baseball game. That’s 96 straight games with a zero in the win column.

TYLER, Texas — No sport plays more games than baseball.

The months of series and double-headers can really make a record pile up, and for Texas College, pile up in the wrong direction.

Not since the 2019 season have the Steer won a baseball game. That’s 96 straight games with a zero in the win column.

Sunday’s second game in a double header against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy changed that.

The Steer pulled out a 6-5 win over the Eutectic’s Sunday, marking their first win in over four years.

“We worked, we worked our tails off to get there. I know TCS had a long history. You know, 2020, COVID affected everything the year after, program was shut down, but finally, glad to get things going where they should be,” assistant coach Damien Ovalle said.

It is Ovalle’s first year with the team, but to the players that had been with the team for longer, the win meant more than just an addition to their record.

“Some guys were emotional. They’ve been here for a few years, and they haven’t experienced the one before,” Ovalle said. “So this was something completely new to them for Texas College, and I’m glad we got we came together as a team to provide that for them.”

Now they are setting their eyes on another long awaited milestone: a multi-win season.

Their next game is currently scheduled for Thursday against Texas A&M Texarkana, but may change due to weather.
