HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – The Synek family has been a fixture in Hastings football for years, and now, all three brothers are reuniting at the college level.
Tucker Synek, senior quarterback at Hastings High, has committed to Hastings College, joining his older brother Jarrett, who is transferring to play for the Broncos after previously playing at both Nebraska and South Dakota. Their oldest brother, Quentin, is already on staff as a graduate assistant.
The trio believes they can bring the program to new heights.
“We always set our goals big,” Jarrett Synek said. “We’d love to be (GPAC) conference champs and try to make a playoff run … Coach (Matt) Franzen and the whole team are on the same page—we know we have a really good group, and we want to build on that.”
Tucker, who helped lead Hastings High to a 6-4 record in 2024 before an injury cut his season short, said he is eager for the opportunity to team up with his middle brother.
“My brother (Quentin) was there last year, and I was looking forward to going and working with him,” he said. “And now that [Jarrett is] going there, I’m very excited about that.”
For Jarrett, who walked on at Nebraska before transferring to South Dakota, the chance to mentor his younger brother was a major factor in his decision to return home.
“Casey (Thompson) was a huge mentor for me (at Nebraska), and getting to do that for my brother is going to be huge,” he said. “He’s already hungry to learn more, and we’ve started watching film together.”
Though Jarrett will not participate in spring ball while recovering from a torn labrum suffered in 2024 fall camp with the Coyotes, he took a medical redshirt year and will have two seasons of eligibility with the Broncos.
With Hastings College coming off a 2-9 season, the Synek brothers hope to help turn the program around and bring a conference championship back to their hometown.
“I’d love to win a national championship,” Jarrett said. “We’re setting our goals extremely high.”
