Syracuse men’s basketball (7-8, 1-3 ACC) travels to Boston College Saturday looking to win their second straight conference game. The Orange are coming off of their first conference win of the season after beating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 62-55 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Tuesday night.
Syracuse’s win over Georgia Tech was their best defensive game this season. Syracuse held Georgia Tech to 36% shooting from the field and 19% from three point range.
“Honestly, I just do what I can,” J.J. Starling said after the Georgia Tech win. “Tonight, it started on defense. I really locked in, I watched a lot of film on it. It really helped us communicate, so it was a collective effort.”
The sentiment postgame was how important it was for Syracuse to get their first ACC win.
“When you’re struggling to get wins every win, especially our first ACC win, it’s important,” said head coach Adrian Autry. “These guys have been battling, preparing and fighting and clawing all year after dealing with different things. These guys keep fighting so I was proud to pull this game out tonight.”
As the Orange sit near the bottom of the ACC standings, if the season ended today, the Orange wouldn’t get an invitation to the ACC tournament. The players are feeling a sense of urgency.
“We gotta lock in right now because March Madness, we’re not gonna get there if we keep losing,” said Eddie Lampkin. “Just being able to win, and we need to turn this around right now before we get to the February stretch.”
For all of the struggles the Orange have had offensively, Boston College has faced similar struggles. They are last in the ACC in field goal percentage (42.9%).
Both teams are 1-3 against ACC foes this year, tip is set for 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Conte Forum in Boston, Massachuetts.
