Tennessee is once again ranked as the consensus No. 1 team in college baseball.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association dropped the Vols two spots to No. 3 a week ago after they won their series on the road against a top-15 Alabama team. They’ve now bumped the Vols back up to the top spot after going 4-0 last week thanks to a midweek win over Queens and a sweep at South Carolina.
“Tennessee overtook Arkansas at No. 1 after the Razorbacks held that position in the March 24 poll,” the NCBWA wrote. “The Volunteers, Arkansas and Georgia all swept Southeastern Conference opponents last week as UT capped a 4-0 week. Florida State of the Atlantic Coast Conference climbed two places to No. 4 ahead of LSU at No. 5.”
Tennessee remained ranked No. 1 in the four other major college baseball polls, which includes D1Baseball, Baseball America, Perfect Game and the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.
“Tennessee remains No. 1 in the D1Baseball Top 25 rankings after sweeping a road series at South Carolina to improve to 8-1 in the SEC,” D1 wrote. “Arkansas and Georgia hold steady at No. 2 and No. 3 after sweeping their weekend series against ranked opponents Vanderbilt and Auburn, respectively.
“The Volunteers, Razorbacks, Bulldogs and Longhorns are all tied atop the conference, leading a group of eight SEC teams in the top 10 of the D1Baseball rankings. The only interlopers in the top 10 are ACC powers Florida State (which remains No. 4) and Clemson (which stays put at No. 6 after a 3-2 week). Texas jumps two spots to No. 5 after a 4-0 week, and LSU climbs one spot to No. 7. The big movers in the SEC are Alabama, which jumps four places to No. 8, and Ole Miss, which leaps six spots to No. 9. Oklahoma drops one place to No. 10.”
10 SEC teams were ranked by D1Baseball. Joining Tennessee in D1Poll’s is Arkansas (No. 2), Georgia (No. 3), Texas (No. 5), LSU (No. 7), Alabama (No. 8), Ole Miss (No. 9), Oklahoma (No. 10), Auburn (No. 16), and Vanderbilt (No. 23).
Here’s where the Volunteers are ranked coming off their 12th consecutive SEC series win.
D1Baseball: No. 1 (-)
USA TODAY Coaches Poll: No. 1 (-)
Baseball America: No. 1 (-)
