Sports Seriously
As the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season winds down, the games are becoming increasingly crucial for conference tournament and NCAA Tournament bracket seeding.
Saturday’s matchup between No. 5 Tennessee (23-5, 10-5) and No. 6 Alabama (23-5, 12-3) is no exception, as both teams have just three games remaining in their regular seasons. The Crimson Tide is second in the SEC standings, while the Vols are tied for fourth with Missouri.
Both teams are jockeying for a potential double-bye in the SEC Tournament, and a possible No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament could also be on the line. For Alabama, this will mark the fifth of seven straight games against ranked opponents to close the season. The Crimson Tide has treaded water with a 2-2 mark in the first four games, but is coming off back-to-back dominant wins over No. 17 Kentucky (96-83) and No. 24 Mississippi State (111-73).
Meanwhile, the Vols have won three in a row and six of their last seven games following a two-game losing streak at the end of January. Tennessee defeated LSU 66-59 on Saturday behind a 17-point performance from Zakai Zeigler.
Entering play on Tuesday, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi had Alabama as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest bracket and Tennessee as the No. 2 seed in the East bracket. Auburn and Florida joined the Crimson Tide as projected No. 1 seeds from the SEC.

Tennessee vs Alabama state predictions, picks
Tennessee 81, Alabama 78: Tennessee has found a way to beat Alabama, winning three straight in the series. Granted, this Tide team could bend UT’s defense to its breaking point. But with a potential No. 1 seed on the line and a home crowd behind the Vols, they’ll outlast Alabama’s early barrage and rally for a tight win.
Emilee Smarr, Tuscaloosa News:
Alabama 81, Tennessee 75: Oats thought the Crimson Tide left more to be desired in the second-half against Mississippi State, but the Alabama (23-5, 12-3 SEC) team that showed up in the first 20 minutes can take down any team, including Tennessee (23-5, 10-5 SEC).
