COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Basketball season may be in full swing for sports fans, but baseball season is also right around the corner.
For college baseball fans, there’s a lot to look forward to with the drama-filled postseason that was 2024. If you’re an Aggie baseball fan, there are some aspects you’d probably like to forget (or purposely omit when it came to head coaching changes).
However, this article isn’t a reflection on the past, but a look toward the future, and a new era under new head coach Michael Earley is in full swing in Aggieland, so much so that it’s earned A&M the top spot in the D1Baseball preseason rankings.
Most of the core that played for the College World Series title last year returns, giving at least some degree of confidence that the Aggies can capture the illusive championship title that the team missed out on last year.
However, they’re going to have to fight their way through an SEC conference that’s also armed to the teeth with talent, with nine conferences foes also listed in the preseason top 25 rankings. Defending national champions Tennessee file in just behind LSU at fourth and third respectively, while Arkansas rounds out the top five behind the aforementioned teams and Virginia, who was tabbed at second behind the Aggies.
You don’t have to read far to find other conference opponents, as Georgia, Florida, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, and Texas also found their way into the top 25 as well, setting the stage for a highly entertaining season on the diamond.
