Texas A&M men’s basketball: Updated rankings following back-to-back losses

Texas A&M men’s basketball had a tough week, fresh off back-to-back losses to SEC foes. The Aggies went to Starkville and were beaten soundly by Mississippi State, then followed that with a hard-fought loss to the Tennessee Volunteers on their home court. Momentum is slipping around the Aggies, and as the new polls come out, A&M is ranked 11th in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll and 12th in the AP Top 25.

A&M is currently 9-5 against SEC opponents and losers of two in a row with four games left to play in the regular season, including matchups against No. 1 Auburn and No. 3 Florida.

The NCAA Tournament selection committee released the initial top 16 seeds for March Madness just over a week ago, and the Aggies came in sixth overall and on the two-seed line. After the tough week, A&M has fallen below that line, at least for the time being.

A&M enters the eighth week of conference play as the best team in the SEC in offensive rebounding, collecting 15.8 a game. Guard Wade Taylor IV continues to be the Aggies’ leading scorer at 15 points per game, taking over for Zhuric Phelps, who (14.4 ppg) has helped solidify the Aggies backcourt as one of the best guard tandems in the conference.
