Regardless of who you ask, the Texas baseball team will enter the 2025 season as a top-25 team.
On Monday, the Longhorns were listed 13th in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll. Texas was one of 11 Southeastern Conference teams that made the cut, and Texas A&M, Tennessee and LSU claimed the top-three slots in the rankings.
The 30 coaches who vote in the USA TODAY poll aren’t the only ones who included Texas in their preseason poll. Texas, which went 36-24 last year and hired new coach Jim Schlossnagle during a busy offseason, has been listed as a top-25 team in the five major preseason polls for the 2025 college baseball season.
While the consensus has agreed that Texas is a top-25 team, the opinions of where the Longhorns rank varies. There was a 12-spot difference between UT’s highest and lowest rankings in these preseason polls.

The Longhorns also learned their place in a preseason poll released by the SEC this week. Texas was ranked in eighth on Wednesday in a Texas A&M-topping poll that was voted on by the conference’s 16 coaches.
Texas received 146 points in the SEC poll and distanced itself from No. 9 Mississippi State and its 112 points. The Longhorns were not among the five teams that received at least one first-place vote.
Texas opens its season next weekend at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown in Arlington. The Longhorns will play Louisville on Feb. 14, Ole Miss on Feb. 15 and Oklahoma State on Feb. 16.
