Jim Schlossnagle: What to know about Texas baseball coach
Four things to know about Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle
Texas baseball narrowly missed out on its first No. 1 ranking of the Jim Schlossnagle era, coming in at No. 2 in the D1 Baseball and Baseball America polls that were released on Monday morning.
The Longhorns are looking up only at Arkansas, which will host Texas for a three-game series beginning on May 1. Texas heads to Kentucky for its SEC series this weekend, while the Razorbacks travel to Georgia.
Texas moved up three spots from No. 5 after a 3-1 week that began with a midweek loss to Texas State but concluded with an impressive sweep of Georgia, which came into the series ranked third in the country.
The Longhorns, playing without key lineup fixtures Max Belyeu and Adrian Rodriguez, relied on their pitching staff to limit one of the most potent offenses in college baseball. The Bulldogs entered the weekend scoring more than 10 runs per game, on average, but managed only eight runs across the three games.
Texas also benefitted from some help from Texas A&M, which took two out of three games from previously top-ranked Tennessee to move the Volunteers below the Longhorns. Florida State, ranked No. 4 last week, took two run-rule losses to Wake Forest over the weekend.
