SEC baseball predictions: Tennessee and Vanderbilt could get hot at the perfect time

On Sunday, the Longhorns were announced as one of the 16 teams that received an invitation to host a regional in the NCAA baseball tournament. It is the 38th time in program history that Texas, one of the sport’s most storied programs, is hosting a regional.
The Longhorns’ official national seeding for the NCAA Tournament will be announced at noon ET on Monday on ESPN2, though the assumption is Texas will be a top three seed despite an early exit from the SEC tournament.
The Longhorns are projected as the No. 2 national seed in USA TODAY’s latest NCAA Tournament projection, as well as in D1 Baseball’s final projections leading into Monday’s bracket reveal.
Texas enters its first postseason under Jim Schlossnagle with a 42-12 overall record. The Longhorns are looking to end a four-year drought of not appearing in the College World Series.

Texas baseball regional host history
As noted by the Longhorns’ Sports Information Department, Texas is 87-22 (.798) in the regional round of the NCAA baseball tournament when it is in Austin.
The 2025 NCAA baseball tournament marks the first time that the Longhorns are hosting a regional since 2022. Texas, the No. 9 national seed that season, rolled through the Austin Regional in 2022 with two commanding wins over Air Force and a 5-2 win over Louisiana Tech.

Texas has been one of the better teams in the country all season, highlighted by their 42-12 overall record and ranking No. 4 in the RPI rankings.
Entering Monday’s selection show, Texas has the third most Quad 1 wins (16) in the country among all Division I programs, according to Warren Nolan Baseball.
The Longhorns additionally rolled through their first regular season in the SEC with a 22-8 record in conference play. After being picked to finish eighth in the SEC preseason poll, Texas became the first team to win the conference’s regular season title in its first season since the SEC’s inaugural campaign in 1933.
