These women’s basketball players posted big-time performances and were named to the NCAA.com starting five this week. Here’s what you need to know:
Madison Booker, Texas
Texas sophomore forward Madison Booker totaled 50 points as the Longhorns rolled to wins at Auburn and over Maryland. Booker scored 28 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field to lead No. 7 Texas to an 89-51 victory over No. 8 Maryland in the Coretta Scott King Classic in Newark, N.J. on Monday. Booker had 20 points at the half of the game. It was her eighth game of the season scoring 20 or more points and it helped Texas to their largest margin of victory over a top 10 team in program history.
Earlier in the week on Jan. 16, Booker (22) and Rori Harmon (20) combined for 42 points as Texas beat Auburn, 74-57.
For the week Booker averaged 25 points per game and shot 19-of-31 from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range, while hitting 9-of-11 (.818) from the charity stripe. For the season, Booker is averaging a team-best 15.8 points per game, shooting nearly 50 percent shooting from the field (49.8), 47.1% shooting from 3-point range and 85% from the free-throw line.
Booker and the Longhorns next host No. 17 Tennessee at Moody Center on Jan. 23.
Jordyn Jenkins, UTSA
UTSA senior forward Jordyn Jenkins earned her third consecutive American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor after nearly averaging a double-double across road victories over Memphis and UAB, extending the Roadrunners winning streak to nine, the program’s longest since the 2008-09 season.
On Jan. 15, Jenkins scored 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds as UTSA scored a 70-68 comeback win at Memphis. Down by 11 with 3:44 remaining in the contest, UTSA found a way, with clutch free throws provided by Jenkins down the stretch of that game providing the difference.
UTSA then secured a 73-63 victory over UAB on Jan. 18 as Jenkins led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds.
For the week, Jenkins averaged 19.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game with three steals and two blocks.
UTSA, 16-2 overall and a program-best 7-0 in AAC play, will now return to San Antonio, welcoming Tulsa on Jan. 22.
Molly Kaiser, New Mexico State
New Mexico State split a pair of games as graduate senior guard Molly Kaiser, the top scorer in Conference USA, totaled 59 points.
In the Aggies’ Jan. 16 matchup with Florida International, Kaiser led the way with 28 points, connecting on 11 field goals as New Mexico State rolled to a 74-50 home win. Kaiser also connected on all five of her free throw attempts and added two steals in the contest.
Kaiser followed with 31 points, three assists and two steals in an 82-74 setback to Liberty on Saturday, connecting on 10-of-19 shots from the field and 10-of-11 at the free throw line. It marked the fourth time this season that she has finished with 30-plus points in a single game.
The Watauga, Texas, native leads Conference USA in scoring and has now moved up to eighth nationally at 22.1 points per game, ranking 10th nationally in total points, with 397.
New Mexico State, 10-8 overall 3-2 in conference play, will next play at Kennesaw State on Jan. 23.
JJ Quinerly, West Virginia
West Virginia junior guard JJ Quinerly averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 steals, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as the Mountaineers scored a pair of home Big 12 Conference wins over Colorado and Iowa State.
The Norfolk, Virginia, native opened the week with 19 points and six steals in a 73-46 win over Colorado, avenging the Mountaineers’ first conference loss from earlier in the season.
Quinerly then closed the week with her sixth 20-point scoring game of the season, scoring 20 as West Virginia rolled to an 82-68 win over Iowa State on Jan. 19, the 11th home win on the season for the Mountaineers. Quinerly’s 20 points in the game pushed her to No. 8 on the all-time scoring list with 1,679, and behind Hall of Famer Kate Bulger (2001-04) with 1,733.
Over the two games, Quinerly connected on 15-of-37 attempts from the floor (40.5%) while adding a 6-of-7 mark from the free throw line. She has now scored in double figures in all 18 games this season.
West Virginia, 15-3 overall and 5-3 in Big 12 play, is on the road this week in Arizona, first taking on Arizona State on Jan. 22, followed by a game at Arizona on Jan. 25.
T’yana Todd, Boston College
Boston College won back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference games for the first time this season as junior guard T’yana Todd, the nation’s top 3-point shooter, averaged 22.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
In wins over Miami (FL) and Syracuse, Todd shot lights out, connecting on 16 of 28 shots from the field (57.1%) that included 12-15 on 3-point field goal attempts (75%).
Todd scored a career-high 29 points on 10-18 shooting and tied a single-game Boston College record with eight 3-pointers in the 83-79 win at Miami (FL) on Jan. 16. The eight 3-point field goals are most by a player in the ACC this season, while it was the most points by an Eagles player since 2021-22.
On Sunday, Boston College returned home to thump Syracuse, 92-51, as Todd scored 16 points, connecting on four of her six field goals from deep.
Todd is tied with Lauren Ross of Purdue Fort Wayne for the top 3-point percentage in the country at 50%, with Todd connecting on 47 of 94 attempts through the first 20 games.
Boston College, 12-8 overall and 3-4 in ACC play, will next host Notre Dame on Jan. 23.
