Texas Tech Baseball drops wild eight inning matchup to Washington

LAS VEGAS, NV (NEWS RELEASE) – Las Vegas College Baseball Classic All-Tournament Team selection Damian Bravo went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and hit a home run but Texas Tech dropped its final game of the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic by a score of 12-8 in eight innings Sunday afternoon at the Las Vegas Ballpark.

Bravo went 8-for-15 for the week with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored to raise his average to .429 on the season.

In the setback, Texas Tech (2-7) was limited to just eight chances at the plate as the game was shortened to accommodate Washington’s (4-8) 6:30 p.m. (PT) drop time.

After the Red Raiders raced out to a 3-1 lead, the Huskies responded with four runs in the third and five runs in the fourth to take an 11-5 lead into the fifth inning.

After the teams traded zeros 1-2-3 innings in the fifth, the Red Raiders pulled to within 11-7 on a two-run double from another All-Tournament team selection, first baseman Robin Villeneuve in the sixth, but a 111.4 MPH line drive off the bat of Davis Rivers found the glove of Washington’s Blake Wilson at second base.

Villeneuve also hit over .500 on the weekend, as the first baseman went 6-for-12 with three runs scored, three RBIs and three doubles.

After UWs Josh Emanuels pitched a 1-2-3 seventh and retired the first two batters of the eighth inning Bravo’s home run gave the Red Raiders a brief respite.

Down to the final out, designated hitter Antonelli Savaterre struck out swinging on the seventh pitch he saw from Emanuels. Savattere had another 2-for-4 day to raise his average to an even .400 on the season.
