Texas cooperated, sweeping the week as the No. 1 team in the nation. After that? The rest of the teams in last week’s top 10 lost a combined 20 games, including 16 to teams ranked outside the top 10.
LSU jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 after taking two of three from Tennessee — but also after getting run-ruled by Northwestern State in a midweek game. Arkansas remaining at No. 3 was the toughest decision of the week. Yes, the Hogs have lost three straight series, but they are tied for second in the nation’s best conference and they have two series win on the road against top-15 teams (Ole Miss and Vanderbilt).
NC State made a huge jump from No. 21 to No. 4 after sweeping Clemson. The Pack’s climb was part market correction (they are in first place in the ACC), part dominating series win (they swept Clemson by a combined score of 26-8) and part taking advantage of chaos in the top 10.
Oregon State dropped 10 spots after getting swept by rival Oregon.
Georgia Tech dropped out after losing two of three at home to Virginia. The Yellow Jackets have lost seven of their past eight.
Troy returns to the poll after a three-week absence.
