The rest of college football should take notes from Clemson

If you’re a college football fan, you should hope that your favorite team takes notes from Clemson.

The Tigers may have just mastered the art of non-conference scheduling and while the elite matchups away from ACC play could hurt their playoff chances just based on facing top-10 teams every year, it may also help the resume when it comes down to what the committee looks for.

Let’s say Clemson is 10-3 after losing in the ACC title game but it lost two non-conference games to Georgia and Notre Dame, it’s more likely to make the playoff and earn a higher seed than a team that went 11-1 and didn’t make the conference title game nor did it have an elite non-conference schedule. That would set Clemson apart and would only help the Tigers in their playoff pursuit.

Clemson may be in the weakest Power Four conference out there (at least recently) which is going to help when it comes to earning an auto bid to the playoff, but if the ACC ever does perk up and the Tigers don’t win it, it’ll help having non-conference games against the likes of LSU, Georgia, Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Oklahoma over the next 14 years.

As a fan, how could you not love that slate?

You have a program willing to play anyone anywhere and the Tigers just aren’t afraid to lace up against the best teams in the country for the entertainment of their fans. This is obviously a way to get more eyes on Clemson, help recruiting, and make the team and program better as a whole, but the fans benefit greatly from this.

Adding Notre Dame for a 12-year series was the best move Clemson could have possibly made on Tuesday and the rest of the Power Four should be taking notes.
