Former Atlanta Brave Hall of Famer Chipper Jones let it be known Wednesday night on X, formerly Twitter, that he’s not a big fan of the cocky style of some college baseball teams.

He included Georgia baseball on his list.

Jones Tweeted Tuesday to praise Coastal Carolina and its ‘proper behavior’ as it advanced out of the regional it hosted. He followed that with an explanation Wednesday of just which teams he thought were a little too cocky during their regionals.

In the Coastal Carolina regional, Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan had a fiery exchange with the site host for moving a game from noon to 1 p.m., an act for which he and Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin later apologized.

Jones, a Florida native, explained his prior Tweet on Wednesday, addressing that he wasn’t pleased with how ‘Sully’ handled the situation, while also berating Georgia baseball for its on-field antics while hosting an Athens regional.

Chipper Jones words about Georgia baseball

Georgia was eliminated from the Athens regional after losses to Duke and Oklahoma State.

Several Georgia baseball players leave a few buttons undone near the top of their jerseys, leaving much of their chest exposed. There were also moments during the loss to Oklahoma State in which Georgia players homered, carried their bats nearly to first base and then flipped them in front of the Oklahoma State bench.

In baseball, its viewed as disrespecting your opponent.

“As I sat with my UGA alum friend, watching the Dawgs/Okla st, the uniforms were a mess, taunting, bat flipping, s— talking was above and beyond normal,” Jones’ Tweet read. “My friend who played baseball at UGA agreed.”

Jones, who did not name his UGA friend, continued his diatribe by calling out an FSU pitcher’s words to a Mississippi State player that was caught on camera. He finished his Tweet with a request that players and coaches respect baseball more.

“UGA has become my second favorite because of all of my relationships,” Jones said. “This is not personal in any way, shape or form. I’m hearing of other instances as well, but these are the ones that i witnessed. Whenever coaches have to issue apologies, I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Want to wish the best of luck to the rest of the teams in the tournament. Have fun with ur teammates, respect ur opponent and respect the game!”

How did Georgia baseball do in 2025?

Georgia was a No. 7 seed in the NCAA tournament, and would have hosted a Super Regional had it advanced. It finished the season 43-17.
