‘This is a winning organization.’ Alex Bregman, new Red Sox infielder, officially introduced Sunday

The Red Sox officially introduced Alex Bregman to Boston at Fenway South early Sunday morning.

Flanked by his agent Scott Boras, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, manager Alex Cora, and team president Sam Kennedy, Bregman made it clear that the focus was winning. And he’s no stranger to it, having reached the postseason in all eight of his MLB seasons with the Astros.

“There are winning players over there,” Bregman said, gesturing toward some of his new teammates seated in the back. “This is a winning organization.”

Winning, however, has been scarce at Fenway Park in recent years, with the Red Sox missing the playoffs in five of the last six seasons. But after just 24 hours in Fort Myers, Bregman expressed confidence in the group. He spoke about the history and legacy of Fenway, highlighting the impact of former Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who reached out during the process. He also reflected on his relationship with Cora, who was his bench coach in Houston.

At the heart of Boston’s pursuit of Bregman this offseason — and what ultimately drew him to the Red Sox — was the desire to win.
