This Moment From Roman Anthony Debut ‘Really Impressed’ Alex Cora

Roman Anthony wasn’t caught up in the moment, despite the fact he’s never experienced anything like it.

That stood out to Red Sox manager Alex Cora.

A few hours after the top prospect in baseball was called up from Triple-A Worcester, he was at the plate hoping to pas the baton during Boston’s seventh-inning rally. He did exactly that as he took a six-pitch walk and put runners at second and third in a one-run game.

“The walk — you can get caught up in the moment, right?” Cora told reporters after Boston’s 10-8 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, per WEEI’s Tom Carroll. “It’s loud and all that. And he just took his walk. Just like in spring training, that was something that really impressed me.”

Cora added: “This is my at-bat, this is what I do. I take walks and hit the ball hard.”

Cora thought Anthony had a good first day in MLB. The slugging outfielder didn’t hit a moonshot or even record his first career hit. There was a fielding error in right field, too.

Nevertheless, Cora walked away impressed by Anthony’s demeanor and patience at the plate. It’s something the Red Sox can use a lot more of as Anthony gains big league experience.
