With the college football season behind us, Pro Football Focus took a look back at the top 101 players from the 2024 campaign.
Three Clemson players made the PFF College 101, including junior quarterback Cade Klubnik, sophomore defensive end T.J. Parker and senior safety R.J. Mickens.
Klubnik tops the Tigers on the list with his No. 38 ranking.
“Maybe the most improved player in the country this year, Klubnik proved himself worthy of his recruiting hype and has Clemson in prime position to contend for a title next season,” PFF wrote. “Klubnik took all the steps you would hope for if you’re a Clemson fan, improving his PFF grade from 64.4 to 89.3 in his second year as the starter. He even recorded 17 more big-time throws than in 2023 on only 22 more dropbacks.”
Parker appears next among the trio of Tigers in the PFF College 101, coming in at No. 55.
“Parker was one of several young stars on Clemson’s defense who shined this season,” PFF wrote. “He finished the year with an 87.4 overall grade, 51 pressures, and 12 sacks. All of those marks ranked inside the top 20 edge defenders in the nation. He was also one of just three ACC edge defenders who finished with an 80.0-plus pass rush grade and run defense grade.”
Mickens, checking in at No. 70, rounds out the Clemson players in the ranking.
“Mickens was the veteran leader of a very young Clemson defense,” PFF wrote. “His 89.8 coverage grade tied for fourth among qualified safeties. He allowed just 100 yards across 29 targets as the primary defender while picking off two passes and breaking up five others. Mickens’ experience and versatility in the defensive backfield should serve him well in the NFL.”
Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, earned the No. 1 spot in the PFF College 101. Reigning national champ Ohio State produced the most players (12) on the list.
Along with the trio of Tigers, other ACC players on the list include Miami quarterback Cam Ward (No. 3), North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton (No. 17), Boston College edge Donovan Ezeiruaku (No. 22), Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord (No. 28), SMU edge Elijah Roberts (No. 35), Duke cornerback Chandler Rivers (No. 40), Miami wide receiver Xavier Restrepo (No. 45), Miami running back Damien Martinez (No. 51), North Carolina offensive guard Willie Lampkin (No. 63), Virginia Tech interior defensive lineman Aeneas Peebles (No. 66), SMU running back Brashard Smith (No. 77) and Syracuse tight end Oronde Gadsden II (No. 85).
