Today on Pinstripe Alley

We’ve made it to the last weekend of the year, with things going pretty slow around baseball. We did get one splash though, with the Tigers signing Gleyber Torres yesterday to a one-year, $15-million contract. It’s hard to call an eight-figure salary a disappointment, but the deal has to be under what Torres expected, even coming off a down 2024. In any event, we hope Torres succeeds in Detroit. He posted a heartfelt message to Yankees fans and the organization on Twitter/X after news of the signing broke.

On the site today, Josh writes a personal essay, reflecting on what baseball meant in 2024. Also, Matt rolls back the clock over a century, to find a time the Yankees benefitted from the opposing team letting their pitcher take at-bat after at-bat, and Jeremy also takes us back in time, continuing our Coulda-Been series with a look at Jim Deshaies.

Questions/Prompts:

1. What’s your favorite Gleyber Torres moment from his time in pinstripes?

2. It was reported earlier this week Corbin Burnes was seeking over $245 million on the free agent market. Will he get it?
