Top 10 winningest college football coaches of all time, ranked

College football giants Nick Saban and Mack Brown announced their retirements over the past two offseasons, leaving no active coaches among the top 10 on the all-time wins list. Below is a look at the storied careers of these two Hall of Famers and the other winningest coaches of all time. This list spans generations, showcasing the sport’s greatest innovators, biggest personalities and strongest leaders.

In the 154-year history of college football, just 18 coaches have won 200+ career games, while only four have won more than 300. Only one has crossed the 400-win threshold. Three coaches on this list, including Brown, made our ranking of the 15 coaches with the most career losses, speaking to their longevity in the sport.

Coaching records are provided by Sports Reference. The list only includes games played by programs considered “major schools.” It excludes notable coaches such as Eddie Robinson (408 wins), John Gagliardi (489 wins) and LSU’s Brian Kelly, whose 118 wins at Grand Valley State were not counted. Additionally, the win totals listed do not factor in wins vacated by the NCAA.
