Top three fantasy basketball buy-low trade targets for NBA Week 15

Josh Giddey has been turning up lately. How hot can he get? Bill Yin lists his top three buy-low targets ahead of Week 15 of the NBA.

It was a frenzied weekend of NBA news as two blockbuster trades went down. The most prominent was a three-team deal which sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis back to the Mavericks. The Lakers also received Maxi Kleber and Markeiff Morris, while the Mavericks acquired Max Christie and the Lakers’ 2029 first round pick. We’re all still in shock.

The magnitude of the Doncic deal was such that the manifestation of a De’Aaron Fox relocation was overshadowed. This second major blockbuster seemed unimportant, yet consequential all the same. The Spurs received Fox and Jordan McLaughlin; the Kings received Zach Lavine, Sidy Cissoko, and a litany of picks; the Bulls received Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and their own 2015 first round pick.

What does all of this mean for fantasy? There’s a lot to unpack here, but most likely the players most affected by these trades are already on a roster. Let’s see who we can pick up.

We’re shooting the Three Lists of Threes today for your weekly dose of fantasy tips: Buy-lows, sell-highs, and streams.

Here are some buy-lows we can consider.

Buy ’em

Alex Sarr, PF/C, Washington Wizards

The Wizards are in complete shambles with a 7-41 record and crumbling team chemistry. Sarr’s front-court partner, Kyle Kuzma, has come out and said that he has no intentions of helping this team rebuild. Wow.

Sarr has missed his last three games and attempt to come back against the Nets on the 5th. He’s averaging 11.5 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 1.6 BPG alongside hideous shooting splits of 39/31/64. He’s not efficient in any sense of the word, but he doesn’t need to be. The Wizards should be prioritizing his development and Sarr should be getting big minutes the rest of the way. It’s going to be a rough ride, but those blocks are worth it.

Lauri Markkanen, SF/PF, Utah Jazz

It’s been an ugly season for Lauri, and an even uglier last two weeks. He’s played five games and has shot 39.2% from the field and 50% from the line, posting averages of 14.8 PPG and 6.8 RPG. It’s clear the Jazz have no intentions of doing anything but losing this season, and I worry about Markkanen’s outlook after March. Despite how grim things are looking, that’s our green light to try and pick up the star wing for low cost, high reward. I don’t think we should be super aggressive in securing the Finnish sniper, but he’s worth more than he appears at the moment.

Josh Giddey, PG/SG/SF, Chicago Bulls

It’s unusual to buy “low” on a player who’s rank 49th in the past two weeks, but this might be an exception. With the news of LaVine moving to Sacramento, I’m bullish on Giddey’s rest-of-season outlook. The young guard is averaging 14.4 PPG, 8.0 RPG, and 6.4 APG in the last two weeks and things are looking rosy from here. I understand that his price will be higher due to his increased role on the rebuilding Bulls’ roster, but I think he’s still slightly underpriced even with that accounted for. I wouldn’t rule out this triple-double machine hard carrying your counting stats the rest of the way.
