Transfer portal: Michigan, Louisville among college basketball’s biggest 2025 splashers

Most college basketball players who plan to enter the 2025 transfer portal already did so. The focus now flips from the biggest names leaving their respective programs to those finding their new homes. The recruiting process is at a fever pitch with countless starting-caliber players on the market, and a number of early contenders for the 2025-26 season made big moves in the portal, like Michigan, Iowa, UCLA and Louisville. Each of those teams acquired a five-star prospect.

Programs that move out in front of the pack early in the cycle are not guaranteed to finish the offseason with the best classes, and those that start slow are not necessarily destined for an underwhelming year on the recruiting trail. The fast starters, though, got a head start in securing the most meaningful talent.

Each of the Final Four teams, for example, project as premier transfer destinations but will not fully ramp up their recruiting efforts until after the NCAA Tournament.
