Two of women’s college basketball’s biggest stars play against the Jayhawks

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) – Some of the biggest stars in college sports play women’s college basketball, and two of them were in Lawrence Wednesday for a match-up against the Jayhawks.

Sedona Prince, Hailey Van Lith, and No. 11 TCU beat Kansas 80-73 Wednesday afternoon. Prince finished with a game-high 30 points and Van Lith added 19. In addition to their skills on the court, the pair have millions of fans on social media.

Prince, a grad transfer, has more than 2.5 million followers on TikTok. She made waves during the 2021 NCAA Tournament when she exposed disparities between the men’s and women’s tournament sites in the COVID Bubble. She says women’s college basketball has changed a lot over the course of her career.

“It’s a very different experience as a women’s college basketball player,” Prince said. “Now, to be leaving with a completely different environment, fan base, support, everything from top to bottom, it’s amazing.”

Van Lith, also a grad transfer, has more than 1 million followers on Instagram. She says playing away from home is what she lives for.

“I just love road games. My whole career, I’ve loved it,” she said. “I know that it’s hard to win, no matter the record or the team that you are going in to play.”

As women’s basketball gains in popularity, Prince says she hopes the game keeps growing.

“They are finally giving women’s basketball the attention we for so long have deserved, and it’s paying off,” said Prince. “Now, everybody is tuning in which is what we expected.”
