DeShaun Foster and UCLA have NFL draft bragging rights in 2025
UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster is trying to establish the Bruins as the premier collegiate football program in the state of California and Foster is pointing to this year’s NFL Draft as evidence.
The Bruins had five players drafted this year, more than any other Californian school this season, which is something Foster made note of on Tuesday while speaking with the media.
“We had the most draft picks of all the California teams. Make sure you guys post that,” Foster said to the reporters present. “Out of all of the California schools. That’s everybody in California. UCLA had more draft picks than them.”
While you can’t blame Foster for being boastful about his program, we’re not exactly in a Golden Age of college football in the Golden State. USC had a down year, Cal’s players left in the portal rather than the draft, Stanford just fired their head coach after a bullying scandal, so perhaps the 5-7 Bruins had the best season of California schools in the Power Four conferences.
“Just shows that what we’re doing here with our program, with the development,” Foster said. “None of those guys were five stars, so we’re really coming over here and developing guys and getting them ready to play at the next level. We’re just going to continue to do that.”
Four of the five UCLA draftees play on the defensive side of the ball and Foster will look to continue to develop NFL prospects ahead of the 2026 draft.
“We want to let the local talent know that if you want to get to the pros, play in the NFL, you can do that here at UCLA.” Foster said.
