UConn vs St. John’s Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s College Basketball Game

Liam McNeeley has been highly effective at cleaning the glass of late, and the UConn Huskies forward should snare seven or more rebounds vs. the St. John’s Red Storm today, per our NCAAM betting picks.

Get ready for a Sunday Big East matinee showdown when the UConn Huskies visit Madison Square Garden and the St. John’s Red Storm.

Huskies freshman Liam McNeeley is a versatile player, and my UConn vs. St. John’s predictions anticipate a big game from Cooper Flagg’s high school teammate.

Read on for my college basketball picks for Sunday, February 23.

UConn vs St. John’s prediction

My best bet
Liam McNeeley Over 6.5 rebounds (+100 at bet365)

My analysis
The last time the Connecticut Huskies faced the St. John’s Red Storm, they suffered a six-point home loss.

Freshmen forward Liam McNeeley missed nearly one month but returned to the lineup just in time to snag 11 boards against a strong St. John’s rebounding squad.

If UConn intends to beat St. John’s today, McNeeley must grab at least seven rebounds, and I’m betting he does.

McNeeley’s 11 caroms against the Johnnies weren’t an aberration as he’s snared 7+ in all four since February 7 and 9+ in three of those ballgames.

It won’t be easy. St. John’s is one of the best team rebounding groups in the Big East, with four Red Storm players averaging at least five per game while reserve Aaron Scott snags four.

Fortunately for UConn, McNeeley isn’t afraid to get dirty and hits the glass hard. He’ll likely have numerous opportunities to accomplish this as St. John’s shoots a chilly 49% effective shooting percentage and 29% from downtown.

UConn vs St. John’s same-game parlay (SGP)

Liam McNeeley Over 6.5 rebounds

Liam McNeeley Over 15.5 points

R.J. Luis Over 0.5 made threes

McNeeley is the best offensive player on UConn’s roster. He scored 18 against the Johnnies and 16+ in three of his last four.

The UConn frosh is a versatile scorer and knows how to get to the line. McNeeley made 8+ free throws in three of four and went 8-10 from the charity stripe last time against the Storm, and I expect similar as St. John’s commits nearly 17 fouls per game.

St. John’s leading scorer, R.J. Luis, has a groin injury. It’s up to him if he suits up, but Luis makes at least one three-pointer per home game and meets a Huskies defense, allowing 36% from downtown.
