Elliot Cadeau, a former five-star recruit and North Carolina transfer, has found his next home. The 6-foot-1 point guard from West Orange, New Jersey will transfer to Michigan.
As a sophomore at UNC in 2024-25, Cadeau averaged 9.4 points and 6.2 assists per game, good for second overall in the ACC. He shot 44.5 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from three. Cadeau was also second in the ACC in turnovers, with 3.1 per game.
“The (Michigan) coaching staff really believe in me and know what I can do,” Cadeau told 247Sports. “I want to play in an offense that best suits me and my abilities, with the correct players around me so we can all win.”
A 247Sports five-star prospect, Cadeau reclassified to the 2023 class to enroll at North Carolina ahead of the 2023-24 season. He was ranked the No. 11 overall player and No. 2 point guard in the 2023 class.
Cadeau played in 37 games as a freshman at North Carolina and made 21 starts. He averaged 7.3 points, 4.1 assists, and 2.2 rebounds as a rookie while shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 18.9 percent from three.

Cadeau made 68 starting assignments in 74 games across these last two seasons.
Cadeau’s total of 231 assists on the 2024-25 season marked the best output by a UNC player in 13 years, an amount not seen since the heady distributing days of Kendall Marshall in Chapel Hill.
“Cadeau proved prone to turnovers in rashes, a recurring issue of threading-the-needle attempts that cast him as something of a polarizing figure among the Tar Heels,” Inside Carolina’s Adam Smith wrote when Cadeau entered the transfer portal. “His total of 113 turnovers registered as the worst number in the ACC this season. And nationally in college basketball, only eight players from major-conference teams coughed up more turnovers than Cadeau.”
Michigan lands its point guard for the future in Cadeau. The Wolverines are entering year two under head coach Dusty May after a very successful first season in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines finished with a 27-10 record and made a run to Sweet 16 run in the NCAA tournament before losing to 78-65 to No. 1 seed Auburn.
Cadeau will arrival in Michigan with a top 35 high school recruiting class that includes Trey McKenney and Winters Grady.
247Sports Transfer Scouting report via Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein:
Cadeau was once the best point guard in high school basketball and reclassified up to join North Carolina after an absolutely dominant 2023 Nike EYBL campaign. While he’s had some ups and downs in his first two seasons in the college ranks, what’s been most unexpected has been some of the inconsistencies in his decision-making. Cadeau handed out over 9 assists per game against just 2.3 turnovers in that EYBL season. This year at North Carolina, he still had a 2:1 ratio, but his 113 turnovers were the most committed by anyone in the ACC. That variance was the root of him losing some minutes and ball-handling responsibilities late in the season. He can still be a brilliant passer, and thread the needle on some high-level finds, but picking his spots and being reliable above all else is at the heart of taking his game to new levels at his next school.
The other key variable is his shooting. He made just 19% of his attempts from behind the arc in his freshman season, with visible glitches in his mechanics becoming more pronounced throughout the course of the season. This year that number climbed to almost 34%, including 43% on open catch-and-shoot threes, but he’s still not shooting the ball with the same confidence or rhythm that we expected coming out of high school.
Defensively too, we saw some pretty extreme variances in his productivity. He would have bursts of energy when he could get steals and deflections, but also committed unnecessary fouls at times.
Overall, it’s about consistency for Cadeau, and so much of that comes down to confidence. We’ve seen what he’s capable of when he’s at his best, and there’s no reason he can’t get back to that if he can regain the same mentality he had less than two years ago.
